What’s up in the production laboratory of Poor Specimen?
Well we have a few projects around the corner. It is an exciting time here at the specimen. We are currently working on a movie with Luke Egan called Transmission, the Momentum Generation book, and a couple of other new movies, to be released in 2005.

What’s the lowdown on Transmission?
We filmed a boat trip with Luke Egan for a month. He picked the surfers he wanted on the boat with him and two different groups of surfers joined him for two weeks each. They found a new left that has a crazy section that just doubles up and turns inside out. You’ll freak when you see some of these lefts we scored.

Can we get any insides on the new project Sipping Jetstreams?
Yeah we are making a super 16mm film and coffee table book (w/ photographer Dustin Humphries). We are filming in exotic locations around the world with a crew of surfers that are hand picked for each spot. Locations are very top secret. One thing I can say is that they are not the norm. The movie is about the love of travel. Basically getting out of your house with surfing as the catalsyt. Your environment influences who you become more than you think so hop on a plane, train or bus and refresh your outlook. Check out some options and educate yourself. The world is wide open and only a couple
of hours away.

What does the name mean?
Sipping Jetstreams means several things to me. It is an abstract name that can be interpreted different ways. Sipping represents the tempo of life outside of SoCal and it could possibly
represent the tempo of the movie. Jetstreams is about planes, skylines and the unknown, especially in travel.

Tell us about your trip to Bali with FUEL - what were you doing? Who was involved?
We had a big film crew shooting some surfing with Andy and Bruce for a Fuel promo. We shot hours of really crazy stuff. We plan on using it for Sipping Jetstreams and Campaign 2 (working title). Rizal, Dorian, Mike Losness, Dede, Betat, Bol and Pepen were also ripping.


What were some highlights?
We shot from a helicopter that was really cool for different angles

Steelehouse Australia is up and running. Why did you decide to expand overseas?
We were ready to grow and try something new. I think taking the business model that we have been working on in the US to OZ will help our shops get more effective. By us being down under we can help with marketing, communication, and shipping. So far it is going great and we are super excited with the decision to do it.


Whats going on with 14 Day Productions / Drive Thru?
14 Day Productions is a new production company that Greg and I started aside from Poor Specimen. We just finished a 10 segment TV show for Fuel TV. The movie version, Drive Thru South America just got released today. We are filming Drive Thru Europe in a couple days. Things are busy and moving fast.


How do you feel about the final results and feedback on the Drive Thru TV series on Fuel?
We are stoked to be on Fuel. The fact that FUEL is 24 hours of action sports is just sick. When we started producing Drive Thru, we always envisioned it for TV.

Is Donavon going to make the next trip with his music career exploding right now?
Nope. He is super bummed. Donavon is going to be touring for the next 6 months. He is blowing up too much. He will be on the next one though we hope. Go buy his CD and support one of the boys!


I heard you just bought property in Byron Bay, Australia?
Yep. We are stoked.

What’s the plan?
We plan to start building a house on our land in January. We plan on living 6 months in Oz and 6 months in the US. That way we can work with the companies in both countries, and also keep traveling.


Why the move?
Life is too short. I need to be somewhere that has warm water and good waves. Cali gets that but not enough. Lately the water has been warm but not enough waves. Plus my family loves it there and of all the places in the world, it’s one of our favorites to go.


For Transmission, why an exclusively Australian release?- what about the US?
Now that we have Steelehouse Oz, it allowed us to do specialized projects for certain regions. It opens up some doors for us to be more specific to each market.


Nice, And your daughter on the way?
She is due any day. Jaiden Grace Steele will be full speed ahead pretty soon. Look out for the future of girl surfing or surf movies.
